The 1st question to ask before getting a new pet!
Are my family and myself ready?
Often families overlook seemingly small things that in the end tend to have a large impact once a puppy enters the home and it is a serious and long term commitment. Some things to consider before you move forward.
Before getting a new puppy, there are several things that new owners should consider.
Firstly, it's important to ensure that everyone in the household is onboard with the decision. Raising a puppy takes a lot of time and consistency, so it's important make sure that everyone is willing to put in the effort.
Additionally, new owners should consider whether they have enough space for a new furry family member and whether they are financially secure enough to for the puppy's needs. Taking the time to consider these factors can help ensure that the puppy and the family have a happy and healthy life together.

Choosing A Breeder
Taking on the decision to get a pup is only one of many important commitments you have to make. Making sure your choosing a breeder to whom you can trust and are doing their due diligence in ensuring the puppies they produce are healthy, happy and of a quality to be proud of. Here are a few things to keep in mind when making this decision.
-
A good breeder will be happy to provide all the needed documentation relevant to your puppy
-
A good breeder will have a fair and balanced contract. Its terms should cover both the breeder as well as the customer.
-
A good breeder will have no quam with offering to take back dogs should the situation call for it. Their hope should always be that all their dogs live happy lives in a forever home.
-
A good breeder will offer a health guarantee for the early period of the pups life.
-
A good breeder will always be willing to answer questions and be as transparent as possible when talking about their practices and program.
-
A good breeder will always be registered with the state government and be under a strict rule of practice.
-
Registration with the ALA are a second source of regulations and though you don't have to be part of the ALA to breed labradoodles, those that do choose to go through the costs, extra regulations and rules cause they care about the breed and holding their standard up to the highest quality.

A big misconception about choosing a breeder is "You should always be able to meet the mother."
As nice as it would be to keep the mummas with us for the the whole period the pups are with us this doesn't work most of the time. This is cause;
1.All but one of our mothers are guardian dogs and thus when the pups are weened at 4-5? weeks and mum has had her fill of puppies constantly trying to nurse, they are returned to their families and to enjoy familiar surroundings.
2. We do not allow visits before 6 weeks of age. We do this to keep our pups safe and healthy as after this they get their 6-7 week vaccinations and their immune system is boosted enough to meet with outside stimuli.
What pup is perfect for you?
Finding the perfect pup for you and your family comes down to many things. You firstly have to consider what type of labradoodle you want and would be suited to your family.
Sizing can be a big factor as some may want a standard size but not have the space or time and would be more suited for a miniature or medium.
Coats can matter if a family member requires a more allergy friendly coat (eg. wool or spiral fleeces)
Aspects such as personality or nature can be a little more particular and harder to determine. Though each and every pup from the first few days can show little quirks and endearing qualities determining a personality can't really be defined until week 6 - 8 of their development. Before that the pups can show minor differentiating qualities but as a whole are just little pups, looking for food, looking for mum, looking for play and looking to get into what ever mischief they can.
Preferences can also make the difference. Things like color or gender come down to the availably. Putting forth interesting towards a 'eg. Coal/Black Female' to a breeder or going on a waiting list, whether or not they have that on the ground at the time can mean the breeder will be more likely to have a litter in the future with such aspects, as a good breeder will breed to their demand and interest given at the time.
What's in store for my pup?
Thinking about your to be pups future is a great way to determine what you require in your perfect new puppy.
Do you intend for your pup to be a therapy dog or a care giver with a calmer more supportive nature? Are you interested in being a a guardian family? These type of questions can help a breeder determine what pup from a litter would best fit you and your families outlook.
